How Clear aligners works in difficult cases

Invisalign

Although clear aligners is an increasingly well-known type of orthodontics, by way of summary we can say that it is an orthodontic treatment based on the use of transparent, removable and comfortable aligners.

Being removable, they allow patients to eat and drink as much as they want during orthodontics, in addition to brushing and flossing without any problem.

In other words, it represents a great advance in improving people’s quality of life while orthodontic treatment lasts. These benefits and the technology applied in this type of orthodontics, have demonstrated the efficacy of clear aligners in difficult cases.

Invisalign clear braces are made with 3D virtual imaging technology using software. This 3D virtual treatment plan shows the movements that the teeth will follow during the process and, most importantly, allows the patient to see from the beginning how their smile will look at the end of the orthodontic treatment.

Based on the calculations of technology, together with the instructions that the orthodontist performs regarding the movements to be carried out, the program of aligners that will be made to measure specifically for each patient is created.

Invisalign difficult cases:

When we talk about transparent attaches we might ask how effective. The Invisalign method performs totally controlled and physiological forces, being a good option for the treatment of patients with treated periodontal disease.

Our team of orthodontic experts in Lahore has achieved successful results applying clear aligners in difficult cases, such as:

  • Dental crowding.
  • Gap-toothed.

Examples of Invisalign cases be corrected is:

There are difficult cases that clear aligners can correct. To facilitate certain movements such as distalization, medialization or correction of a cross or open bite, it will be necessary to use auxiliary elements such as elastics, mini implants or a combination of both.

Next, we explain how to treat extreme cases with clear aligners with the help of bone anchoring.

Malocclusion

case 1

Clear and removable aligners gradually straighten teeth without the need for uncomfortable metal and fixed brackets. In relation to malocclusion, they are effective to treat moderate-severe crowding problems and to treat practically all types of malocclusions. Treatment can range from 6 to 18 months, although most cases take 12 months.

Severe dental crowding:

case 2

The most common Invisalign cases are those in which there is severe dental crowding, that is, teeth that are rotated and advanced or delayed with respect to the ideal arch.

With clear aligners, complicated cases such as distal the lower arch obtain very satisfactory results. When the lower arch is more advanced than the lower one, we must distance it or bring the lower teeth back to ensure that they occlude well.

To do this, we can move the lower teeth backwards through distalization:

Visualization ½ of the lower arch: consists of moving 2 teeth at the same time.

Distalization of the entire lower arch + micro screws: consists of distalizing the entire lower arch with micro screws placed behind the second mandibular molars

Open bite:

Case 3

Invisalign clear aligners can slightly intrude or extrude teeth (0.5-1.5mm) with the support of attachments. To intrude or extrude teeth greater than 1.5 mm, Invisalign can be combined with auxiliary elements such as micro-screws and buttons or brackets on localized teeth and / or the use of elastics.

The open bite is a malocclusion characterized by the absence of contact of one or more teeth with its antagonists. The correct thing is that all the upper teeth occlude over the lower ones.

With clear aligners, complicated cases like the one below get excellent results.

1-We start from an anterior open bite where the only dental contact was located on the second molars.

2-After the clinical examination to evaluate the malocclusion, an intrusion movement of the molars was planned (move the molars towards the gum) and thus be able to achieve contact with the rest of the teeth. When the molars are intruded, it is possible to eliminate the posterior interference when occluding and thus it is possible that all the teeth contact again.

3-A micro screw was placed between the first and second lower left molars to make the intrusion movement more predictable and progressive intrusion with Invisalign was planned.

Does the Clear aligners treatment in difficult cases last longer?

Regarding whether the clear aligners treatment in difficult cases lasts longer, it is important to bear in mind that Invisalign technology, together with the knowledge applied by the orthodontist, constitutes a method that is applied in a totally predictable way, which is an important factor reduction of treatment time.
